About the Artist

The landscape artist Zoe Taylor was born in Staffordshire, England. Growing up, she developed a partiality to wide, expansive views and boundless skyscapes. Taylor moved from textiles to painting early on in her career, followed up by winning several awards. She then began to exhibit at galleries, both solo and in groups, from 2017 onwards throughout the UK. Her work is also held in private collections worldwide.

Taylor makes notes while out in the field, and then back in the studio combines these notes and sketches with her own imagination – distant, faded memories and thoughts come together with the original inspiration to create a work that is inspired but with its own distinct identity. Her work’s comprise of soothing, multilayered applications of generally neutral tones, for example warm and soothing orange reflecting off a dark, cold body of water, some rendered in somewhat impressionistic brushstrokes and others in more Cubist, geometrical flourishes. Taylor’s landscapes contain no trace of human forms, and the barrenness is the perfect launching board for Taylor’s multilayered working process, where the painting is built up until a final meaning for Taylor is defined and the title can then be put in place. The titles often reflect Taylor’s thoughts on the work or its inspiration, as opposed to a representational title. Taylor hopes the title serves as a starting point the viewer’s journey through the piece and their eventual own interpretation.

The viewer and the artist are, in this sense, the only human element involved in viewing Taylor’s work, giving it a unique ability to make the viewer seem like fly on the wall, witnessing an artist convey nature’s beauty and fineness.
