Ned Rees-Wigmore | Hockey Player
How did you get into Hockey?
I started my journey following in my mum’s footsteps. She played hockey but missed out on playing for her country (Wales) and I was driven to achieve this and play for my country (Wales).
What does it involve?
I travel at least 14 hours a week to train and compete for the level of hockey I am currently playing at and my Welsh hockey commitments are additional to this with camps and training sessions across Wales and the European Championships that took place over 11 days in Alanya, Turkey, over the summer. This required intensive training prior and acclimatisation before the tournament where we played in felt like temperatures of up to 40 degrees.
What are your goals?
I am enjoying playing and coaching for Hockey Wales and remain eligible for selection for the 2026 U21 European Championships. In addition, I am pursuing working toward entrance into Oxford University where I also hope to gain an Oxford Blue for hockey.
How will this sponsorship support you?
The sponsorship is critical to me pursuing these goals as the travelling, fees and kit are significant and would otherwise be prohibitive. I am very grateful for this opportunity.
Please provide a rough timeline of upcoming events.
I am hoping for selection to play in the European Club Championships in May 2026 in Toruń, Poland, having qualified for these last year and will continue my endeavours to be selected for Hockey Wales U18 European Championships in 2027.
