In 2009, Griffiths began by purchasing Penrhiw Priory, a historic property located in the St Davids Valley. Motivated to provide a space for his family to convene, he embarked on a refurbishment journey. This endeavour was not merely an exercise in architecture but a testament to his commitment to preserving the cultural fabric of St Davids. Griffiths’ instinct for sustainability and community engagement kicked in as the property was revived, prompting him to open its doors as a holiday rental.
Penrhiw Priory’s success was a motivating factor for Griffiths to persist in his conservation endeavours. When the opportunity arose to acquire Roch Castle, an irresistible proposition, he couldn’t refuse. Yet, the path to financial sustainability led him to a creative solution. He used his connections to procure Twr y Felin Hotel and the adjoining field from old friends. With the three establishments under his care, Griffiths was tasked with creating sustainable operations that could contribute to the local economy and retain the region’s charm.
